Fewer homeowners today are willing to give up the square footage for a dedicated home theater that might not be used frequently. Converting a large, open room for theater use is not simple. Challenges include ambient light, room acoustics, and where to mount either a projector or television. For a projector, the light output is especially concerning and the projector must be ceiling mounted in the middle of the room to preserve the proper throw distance and light output. But many homeowners, especially the lady of the house, don't want to see a large, unsightly black box dangling from their ceiling, listen to the unit's fan, or feel the heat from the projector.
The multipurpose room that has one or two screens - a large flat panel that is used for normal daytime viewing and a larger movie screen that may drop in front of it for a theatrical type experience for watching movies. In multipurpose rooms, we are not able to hide the projector and it is very visible. That makes the aesthetic of the projector important, not an eyesore. At Pyramid we have a defined good/better/best offering for our projectors, our projection clients usually fall into one of three groups:
- Those looking for projectors under $8,000
- Middle-tier clients who are willing to pay more for performance in the $8,000 to $15,000 price range
- Cost-is-no-object customers who want a state-of-the-art digital theater
At Pyramid we look for companies that are truly innovators. Not just ones that are buying product and rebadging it. Companies that have invested in the category and have longevity and offer good support. Most importantly, we look for companies that build to the highest performance. Manufacturers who build products that will best reproduce a movie the way the director intended it be viewed or an audio product that reproduces music the way the musician intended it to be heard."
